Sheet B-04 — Product design & branding

Product design & branding

Software fails more often from confusion than from bugs. We design the screens around the decision each person is trying to make, and we give the company an identity that holds together from a business card to a dashboard.

B-04.1 — What we deliver

Interfaces people use without training

  • 01User research, journey maps and clickable prototypes
  • 02UI design and a component library to build from
  • 03Design systems — tokens, states, dark mode and documentation
  • 04Brand identity: logo, colour, type and the rules
  • 05Usability testing with the people who will use it
  • 06Accessibility reviewed at design time, not after launch
B-04.2 — How we work

Four steps, no surprises

  1. 01Watch people workInterviews and shadowing with the real users, including the ones who hate the current system.
  2. 02Prototype and testA clickable version put in front of five users before anything is engineered.
  3. 03Design the systemNot screens — components, states and tokens, so the hundredth screen costs less than the tenth.
  4. 04Hand to engineeringSpecs, assets and a working component library, reviewed together with the developers.
B-04.4 — Questions

What people ask first

Yes. Plenty of our design work is handed to a client's own engineers, and we review their build if they want us to.

We do, and we are honest about when a refresh is enough. A rebrand that nobody asked for is money spent on the wrong problem.

We test it. Five users will show you most of what is wrong, and we would rather find it in a prototype than in production.
